A „Gruppen und Topologische Gruppen” félévente szerveződő konferenciasorozat több mint 20 évvel ezelőtt Németországból indult, azzal a céllal, hogy szakmai fórumot biztosítson az absztrakt- és topologikus csoportelmélet területén dolgozó matematikusoknak. A Németországból induló kezdeményezéshez több európai
ország kutatói  csatlakoztak, szerepet vállalva a konferencia szervezésében is. Magyarországon elsőként ebben az évben szervezzük meg ezt a találkozót.  Az összejövetel helyszíne a MTA Debreceni Akadémiai Bizottsága Székháza.
